So after acquiring a few highly detailed, but much less poseable Arkham Asylum and City figures, I tried my hand at getting a more articulated Catwoman. The fact it was a 2-pack sold on eBay for much cheaper than it was originally was just a sweet bonus. The Legacy figures scale back on the detail and are generally smaller than the DC Direct or Collectibles figures. They have the added bonus of tons more poseability and fun though!
The Catwoman does have some nice texture to the suit, and I like having a figure where her goggles are down. She has her classic whip accessory shaped well, but unpainted. The Batman figure doesn't come with any accessories and has mostly decent articulation.
Since the articulation, price and other categories are inextricably linked in these two figures, they will be evaluated as if they were one!
Sculpt&Paint: 3/10 The paint application on these figures is a bit gobbed on, with no real shading to speak of. The textures are nice on the suits, but the way Batman's torso and arms are sculpted it is impossible to get his arms very far down. I actually used hobby knives to cut into his pits and elbow joints to get more range of motion! Full disclosure, I didn't like the blue that he originally came with, so I painted a duller black overtop. It shows up a bit at some angles.
Articulation: 5/10 At 20ish points of articulation, including ankle swivels, ab crunches and hips that can both do the splits and kick further forward, this is much better than the DC Collectibles reviewed so far. That said, both figures don't quite get 90 degrees in elbows or knees. Catwoman's ab crunch is fairly laughable as well.
Price/Availability: 6/10 eBay seems to have this one cheaper if you buy them individually (about 20 each). It's pretty close to its original price and there are quite a few out there. You even get to chose if you want the white versions that featured on the cover of the game!
Accessories: 1/10 Batman comes with none, Catwoman comes with a decent enough whip that has a good sculpt to it. but no paint to it. Not even the handle DC Universe? C'mon!
Verdict: 15/40 Not quite the adult collector grade you deserve, but maybe they one you need right now...for the price! They are fun, but in retrospect, I would have watched more reviews of their poseability before buying them on assumptions. Also, I am not a huge fan of the mattel crotch joints. They break the look of a sweet stance or kick for me.
Some off paint details on the head, but nice effects on the googles. |
I feel like the forehead may be far too large on this Batman |
Very fun to pose. |
This whip does not have any nae nae |
Not bad sculpt wise. You can kind of twist it around and it mostly stays. |
Pounce! |
This is either fighting, or very violent foreplay! |
That Batman does have a huge forehead. Not quite Hector Hammond (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Hector_Hammond_(New_Earth)) but definitely noticeable. With the Bat and the Cat who can differentiate fighting or flirting?
