Deathstroke is one of the eight assassins contracted to kill Batman in the third game in the Arkham series, Arkham Origins. They really show off Deathsroke's fighting speed, weapons and resourcefulness in the game. He is easily the toughest boss fight in the game, and he's closer to the beginning. With tons of gadgets to use in the game play portion, and some great cut scenes, he's my favourite of the assassins.
This figure was released with his mask as a single pack, but due to coming with Copperhead, I bought him maskless in the Arkham Origins three pack. Aside Copperhead, this also included the origin form/memory sequence of Joker as the Red Hood. The figure has everything you could want: awesome paint, fantastic armor sculpt, superior poseability and sweet accessories.
There are some more minor issues. His shoulder pads are solid plastic, so it takes finagling to get his arms up above his head and look natural. His gun holster and other gray soft plastic additions are unpainted but sculpted as if they were meant to be. There isn't a great place to put his retractable staff, which is interesting given they gave him a great gun holster and nice scabbard for the sword.
Sculpt&Paint: 9/10 The paint details are so good on this figure. The sculpt of the armor is great and the belt and holster is a soft plastic, which helps to position legs for better flexibility. The only thing that stops it from being a 10 is the unpainted holster.
Articulation: 8/10 25 points of articulation! Double jointed knees, ankle swivel AND pivot, ab crunch and waist rotation. His head also moves very well. The only thing that would make this better would be double jointed elbows and fixing some of the armor restrictions if possible.
Price/Availability: 8/10 Although there aren't a ton available in stores anymore or reasonably priced only, BBTS has it at a 36% discount for the three pack. Way better than what I paid for it originally.
Accessories: 5/10 Deathstroke comes with his staff, pistol and sword. They are pretty well sculpted and have some clean paint. DC Collectibles hadn't gotten to the place where they put in extra heads or hands, it might have been nice to have them here. Being able to switch Deathsroke's head to his masked form, instead of having to get two of the same figures for that effect is a downer. His hands hold his weapons well, but alternative hands, maybe fists, would have been a great addition as well.
Verdict: 30/40 The articulation, and design/paint on this one is SO good. I loved posing him and I really get behind the bulky armored design on this take of Deathstroke. The Arkham Origins line of figures gave me some more hope for the DC collectibles line.
Paint rivets on the scabbard, but zero paint on the gun holster. Weird, right? |
Sometimes, you just gotta meditate on the killing. |
Currently best trigger finger held gun on a figure I have |
Deathslash! |
Sword close up |
His boots even have cool sculpting on the bottom of the boots but it does impede standing balance. |
No stand required! |
An interesting take on Deathstroke. Not as drab as some of the other game designs. Are all the little white lines supposed to be battle damage or some kind of camouflage?
ReplyDeleteThey are supposed to be battle damage. They may have overdone it with the sheer number of scratches. I also feel maybe it would have been just as good being steel gray instead of white, but it still works.
DeleteYeah it's one of those things that you don't want to get lost in the paint job but don't want to look too busy either. It's a fine line.
