Another New 52 Teen Titans character, Superboy is a name taken by quite a few characters. Most recently in the DC Rebirth, it is Jon Samuel Kent, but in an alternate New 52 universe, he was Kon-El. He is a cloned creation from the DNA of Superman, Lois Lane and Jon Lane Kent.
I got this figure because 1) Love the suit design and really shiny red lines against black and 2) Super cheap deal. Just like a lot of the New 52 DC Collectibles, the articulation is always different, and usually poor! His hair is fine, but his face sculpts and paint leaves something to be desired. The face looks almost pudgy or perhaps it's the high cheekbones. Either way, not very comic book accurate. He looks more like an adult rather than a teen.
Sculpt&Paint: 6/10 Not bad. Glossy bright red on black? Check! The overall body shape is well done , and they did a good job with the suit design. The face isn't quite right though and it has a weird glossy look to it that makes it seem a bit inhuman.
Articulation:4/10: 17 points. The is a mid shin cut and mid forearm cut, which is sort of unique. The head doesn't pose very far upwards, and the thighs don't move very far apart, but you can get him in a few decent poses.
Price/Availability: 4/10. Not Great. Sold out at BBTS, and ridiculous on Amazon. You'll find one resonably on eBay and a few at 200% markup (which I wouldn't recommend paying for).
Accessories: 1/5 None.
Fun Factor: 2/5. He has some decent play value. He's a solid figure and has a nice shelf aesthetic to him. Not a ton of poses, but in flight he looks pretty good!
Verdict: 17/40 Limited. Good looking, but pretty limited in most other ways. At least he can do some of his iconic poses given his hand sculpts and body design!
There's a lot of botox going on here. |
A bit of a villain pose. He does have the more villain colour scheme after all! |
To the skies! |
Flying punch! |
Clones do have a lot of health problems in comics, maybe his meds make him look that way? The colour scheme on his costume is pretty slick though. It's better than the t-shirt and jeans look from just before the New 52.
