Where in
Arkham City Nightwing has no dialogue and only appears in DLC for Challenge maps, in
Arkham Knight he actually has dialogue and a side mission. As I said before, Nightwing is easily my favourite of the Bat family. He adds levity, fun fighting and wit to an otherwise fairly dark Bat-universe, with the Arkhamverse being a few shades darker than that.
His costume and look here is pretty different from most incarnations of Nightwing I've seen. This version is more armored, the hair is less messy, and they traded in the domino mask for more of a cut out cowl look. I gotta say, I prefer the face look of the Arkham City version. He was fun to use in the game though, and still had his escrima sticks and electrical discharge attacks. He has a stealth mission too that allows him to use wrist mounted knock out darts, along with other gadgets.
This figure is pretty spot on for the game. Very well articulated, very good paint and pretty fun to pose. I wish he had a real ab crunch and that DC would just not even try to paint stubble on figures, but we can't have everything!
Sculpt&Paint: 8/10 Really well done paint and sculpt. Lots of small details in dry brushed metal and despite my hang ups about the stubble, it isn't so bad it takes away from the figure (Unlike Arkham Origins Batman).
Articulation: 7/10: 29 points. He's got tons of points of articulation, and yet they missed a few things. Double jointed elbows, knees, double swivel wrists and ankles, even boot cuff swivels and thigh rotation! That said, the diaphragm joint is really bad. It doesn't really allow any movement of any kind, so I'm not sure why they even bothered when they could have just put in an ab crunch.
Price/Availability: 7/10 Okay. You can find him for a bit pricier (40 bucks) than original in most places, or on the BBTS store for original price.
Accessories: 2/5 Decent. He comes with his two escrima sticks and two retracted escrima sticks. They are well painted, though not with any shading. No alternate hands though.
Fun factor: 4/5 Despite the lack of ab crunch, you can still get him in lots of poses, he's got a nice look to him and his blue V really pops out with proper lighting. He also passes the one-footed balance test!
I agree with you on the facial expression. Dick Grayson shouldn't be as dour as Batman. I'm not sure how I feel about the mask. The "V" is a bit boring and Nightwing's modern costume has always straddled the line between minimalist and generic. Of course that could be a reaction to his VERY flamboyant original costume by George Perez.
ReplyDeleteThe mask to me was a bad choice. It's the thing the really helps define Nightwing as a past Robin and student of batman. That costume was great! If they could have a slightly modernized take on it, I'd be all for it. As is, the Rebirth Nightwing has few changes. They made his mask blue and added some swirly designs to his legs...that's about it!
