DC Collectibles Commissioner Gordon - Arkham Knight

Commissioner Gordon has always been a mainstay in the Batman universe as Batman's staunch ally within the GCPD. Tough, fair and incorruptible. I have enjoyed nearly every portrayal in comics, tv and film of Gordon with perhaps exception of the more doofus-like Gordon from the 1966 Batman show.

There aren't a ton of Jim Gordon action figures out there, and this one is kind of a mixed bag. He's got some decent articulation for a figure that doesn't necessarily need it, but also some really limiting articulation that shouldn't have passed muster. They did a pretty good job of the sculpting and paint and his accessories are pretty so-so. I find the figure a bit on the lean side, but on the other hand, I'm generally used to seeing him look bulkier with the help of his signature trenchcoat. I would've liked a removable trenchcoat, come to think of it! All in all, they matched him with the game just enough to make him presentable from afar!

Sculpt/Paint: 3/5 I'm not 100% sold on this one. The build is fairly lanky with a head that seems a wee bit small, like the Batman. They did a pretty decent job of the glasses and there is some decent shading in the flesh tones and clothing of the figure, but the paint isn't even throughout. His skin tone also suffers from the moulded translucent look that the other figures in the line have. The rest of the clothing, holster and hair is painted fairly well, and I'm happy to report no weird googly-eyes with mine.

Articulation: 3/5 (18 points...but -1 for a TERRIBLE diaphragm joint)
This one is kind of a mixed bag. From the hips down he's got a great range of motion in the hips, a mid-thigh swivel, double jointed needs and surprisingly decent ankle range given he has pant cuffs that overtake his shoe. His hip motion is actually better than Catwoman's from the same wave. This is insane to me. His head has a pretty good side to side motion, though little forward and back.

On the negative side his arms stand out awkwardly and even if you push the holster side, there's no give! You can't place them naturally. Awkward, Gordon.

The elbows are hinge swivels that don't really bend far at all, so you can't get a cool double hands on the gun pose. The worst though is the diaphragm joint. This is straight up GARBAGE. You can't...move it more than a tiny bit horizontally, and the clothing folds stop it from going up and down. They might as well have not included it and instead, put in a waist swivel (which is mysteriously absent given how easy it would've been with the belt and paint to make a transition).

Price/Availability: 5/5 Good deal. This is not a highly sought after figure. I got him mostly because I've become an on/off completionist for the Arkham lines of figures (even if they do let me down sometimes). You can find him for a discount at most only stores that sell DC collectibles stuff, and he is currently on Amazon at 30 CAD.

Accessories: 2/5 Gordon doesn't need a lot of accessories, but these are nothing to write home about. He comes with an extra open hand, a portable radio, and his pistol. The most disappointing part is the lack of paint and small size of these. They look a bit tiny in his hands, though I am pleased the pistol fits nice and snug in his holder. Bleh.

Fun Factor: 3/5 Because I am trying to complete the line over time, I enjoy having him join the Arkham Bat-family on my shelf. He's pretty solid and no QC issues here. He can only hold a few poses, though he is well balanced and hasn't fallen over yet. I don't see myself playing with this one often.

Verdict: 11/25 Okay. He's just ok! If you really want to complete the series or line, that's fine. He is a pretty good looking Gordon, but this one is going to be a pass for most figure and Batman figure collectors.

Pretty good shading here. The eyes aren't bad but upon
second review, he doesn't have much for shading around the eyes

Ready to go!

Commissioner Gordon, Traffic Director!

This is an insane range for someone who barely has a combat
role in ANY of the games.

Opening fire with the tiny pistol!

You gotta radio for Batman
backup sometime!

Here's a comparison in height.
Quite a bit shorter, but Batman
still wins the tiniest head award!
