This blog has already reviewed Batgirl previously, so if for some crazy reason this is your first time reading about Batgirl, go to this previous review of the
Batman Unlimited Batgirl
This particular Batgirl deluxe figure is from the Batgirl of Burnside storyline (Oct 2014), in which all her previous gear burns up in a fire, forcing her to make her own DIY costume and continuing her fight against crime...in style! This Batgirl is an update to relate more to the modern age. Aside from being tech savvy, she's also on social media, takes Ph.D. courses and dates. The writing team on this one succeeded in making this version of Batgirl more fun and relate-able but she is still haunted by her previous trauma.
At first I wasn't sold on the purple and yellow look, but now I'm really digging it. They also kept up this look a bit in the DC Rebirth. This figure is great, and unlike Cyborg, her Deluxe title is well worth it. I mean she comes with a whole freakin' bike! And it's huge! And it comes with a stand with kicked up dirt effects! She's a slender figure, so you have to watch moving her joints, but this one is so well done. She even comes with a regular and windblown cape as well as a regular head and a windblown hair head.
Sculpting/Painting: 9/10 Great. The painting and sculpting is really on point here. They do a great job of adding nice shades into the hair, and the bright contrasting paints are really well applied throughout. Like Wonderwoman, her hair is sculpted with a soft material that allows her good movement as well as being draped on one side. The face and eyes on each head are also well done. The only thing I would say is they sculpted her neck a little too long.
Articulation: 8/10 Good. Her articulation is pretty standard for the DC icons line. Pros: She's a much slimmer figure, which means great movement in the torso and shoulders. The rest of her articulation is good up to the standard of DC Icons.
Cons: Unlike newer Icons, she doesn't have the drop down hips.
Price/Availability: 6/10 Okay (67-85 CAD average price ) This is a whole lot of deluxe, so it has been marked up by about 20% in most places, not including shipping. If you're in Canada, Amazon is probably your best value bet.
Accesories: 5/5. Fan. Tas. Tic. There is really no way they could have done more with this, except maybe include a batarang. There's the large and awesome bike which looks great with a lot of characters already. The stand tilts it to the side for a nice action riding pose. The only thing I find about the bike is that it is too large. Even given a superhero bike, she can barely sit on the seat and grab the handles. Seems like this was more meant for a 7 inch figure!
Her alternate head and cape are solely for bike poses but are well painted and sculpted. She also comes with alternate hands to hold her yellow grapple and a really tiny tiny tiny phone. In my books, she comes with everything and if you're a semi serious collector, I'm sure you have some batarangs you can lend her if that's a gripe.
Fun Factor: 5/5: This is easily one of my favourite pieces in the Icons line, nay, my collection as a whole! Is it the massive bike? Maybe. The sweet colours? Yes. The poseability? Definitely a contributing factor. I could've given her a four since she actually can't balance with her top heavy cape given the very light weight of the figure, but hey, this is why I have a subjective scale!
Verdict: 33/40 Great. This is a really good figure, and worth the price. This is especially true if you hope to complete that sweet Bat-family one day. With the release of Damian, the only thing that could make this better would be Red hood and Robin. *Looks into the distance and wistfully sighs*

She's either fighting and putting on sweet
dance moves! You decide. |
That is a great figure! I love the new design. It's one of the best female superhero costumes out there right now. The skid effect for the bike is pretty cool too.
