DC Icons - Cyborg (Forever Evil)

He is Victor Stone, and as of 2011, is typically written as a football player who goes through a horrific accident involving a Motherbox obtained from the parademons of Apokolips. The obvious solution? Get his dad to keep him alive using alien cybernetic technology! Plus then he has some bad ass armor and guns!

Though not originally a founding member of the league, in the 2011 reboot of DC comics he was made to be. He's a somewhat tortured character and goes through a lot of deaths and rebirths, but such is the way of a person made of mostly alien hardware.

This figure is based on the Forever Evil crossover series from 2013 to 2014. As his part of the storyline, Cyborg fights the Grid, a being who takes over his body and temporarily disengages him from his life-sustaining alienware. Now in order to help his Justice Leaguers, he will become Cyborg again, of his own free will, with some upgrades!

This figure is an improvement in the DC icons line. He has greater back and forth diaphragm movement, and quite a few accessories. I'm not sure he needed the cybernetic block/(battery?) that plugs into his back, but what are you going to do? I also have issues with the fact they made him a deluxe instead of a regularly priced figure. Green Lantern came with just as many, if not more bulky parts, and was a regularly priced figure.

Sculpt&Paint: 8/10 Good. They did a good job of his paint apps. Fairly clean, and with some nice dry brushed black onto his metal to make it seem like he's gone through some heavy fighting. The red spots painted are also really clean and stand out.

Articulation: 8/10 Good (29 points). Pros: His legs have drop down hips! Like Wonder Woman, that allows better hip range. For some reason, his right hip is ratcheted. Anyone else notice this or have this? It's just in the right, but it does help with stability. The diaphragm joint is faaaaaar better than any earlier Icons as well, and allows a lot of movement side to side and forward/back.
Cons: No hip swivel or leg swivel to help with turned out leg poses. The head on mine is really stiff and due to the jaw mold, can't really turn very far and can't look up really at all or down much.

Price/Availability: 7/10 Good. As he is a more recent figure, Cyborg is available most places at his original price. That said, I feel like they could have just left him with a couple of extra arms and hands and made it a regular pack.

Accessories: 4/5 Great. This is a deluxe pack, so it comes with a lot. I'm not sure it came with so much they NEEDED to make it Deluxe and up the price so much...but there you have it. All the pieces are really well sculpted, painted and dry-brushed.
He comes with two sets of hands: fist hands and slightly open hands. He comes with two large blasting arms, one of which I think is his Sonic canon? His alternate arm is pretty neat too. The only thing I can't quite wrap my head around is the large cybernetic piece that attaches to his arms with cables. The cables are bendy, yes, but they're so stiff, it's hard to put them into the pieces and also have the large piece lie flat. As a collector, I didn't really feel that he needed this part. I would've preferred maybe a rocket pack or rocket boots or something.

Fun Factor: 3/5 Good. He can get into some pretty fun poses. His accessories really highlight his cybernetic nature and they aren't so heavy that they topple him. His head is a bit limiting at times when looking in the direction of his shots, but he passes the one legged balance test.

Verdict: 30/40 Really good! I enjoy this figure a lot. He's got some sweet arm canons, great paint applications and some much needed improvements on Icons articulation. Definitely get this one if you are collecting Justice League or just like Cyborg. Even if you don't!

Pretty good paint job!

Nice balance and kick range
Nice ab crunch for Icons

There's his open hands!

Cables and his...uh, boom box? No idea! Someone inform me

Alternate arm and canons!

Step one: remove forearm
Poor forearm!
Step two: Attach a sweet arm canon!

Or this one!
Note the grabby pincers!
This took a bit of work to get balanced

And here's his alternate arm. I really like the little details
but it's slightly short for my taste.

There it is from the back so you can see more details.

Two canons ho!

He does feel lucky

You could just pull off cool canon poses all day...

Ok so you can plug the two smaller
cables into the box and his arm

Getting all three? Pretty difficult unless he's kinda...leaning
down and backwards? Err....

Ok, now they all go with the box flush to the ground...
doesn't look great or anything though.

I like the idea of him needing to jump into action,
breaking all the cables like he's fleeing a Cyborg hospital.

This is how cool people carry their
cybernetic boom box. (Seriously, what is this?)
*Waits for a die hard fan to tear him a new one*

  1. Cyborg was created in the 80's I'm sure he had a boom box at some point.
