Funko has existed since 1998 (wow) but didn't really get big into the game until 2005 when they signed a TON of licensing deals with other companies like Marvel, DC Comics and Lucasfilm, to name a few! Funko is most well known for their bobble-headed POP figures, but they have increasingly made lines of nostalgia toys for some iconic movies and films.
A wave of figures was released for the 1966 Batman tv show starring Adam West (R.I.P.) as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. This included Batgirl, Batman, Robin, King Tut, Bookworm, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze and the Batmobile! I haven't watched a ton of the 1966 Batman tv show, but I have seen enough to know it was campy, funny, ridiculous and fantastic all at the same time.
This figure and other Funkos are certainly not designed for their wide range of articulation or playability. They more serve as a static collector's pieces to be remembered fondly.
That said, the head has surprising articulation, and his little batradar is a neatly made and painted accessory that fits fairly well in his hand. This is not a typical figure to my collection, as it was a gift, but a welcome addition nonetheless!
Scuplt&Paint: 4/5 There is a fair attention to detail! Even the eyebrows are painted on. The cape not directly attached to the figure, which allows a slight off the shoulder cape look! All in all, it is pretty good likeness!
Articulation: 1/5 7 Points. Ball joint shoulders, and the rest are swivels. No ankle, boot or wrist articulation. The cape is kinda lose enough you can sort of pose to one side! Does that count? Like I said, it will not be a figure you put into poses for shots, but rather a collection piece.
Price/Availability: 5/5 Great. It's still at it's original price in stores and online everywhere! Yay!
Accessories: 2/5 Okay. His bat-radar is well detailed and painted, but it would have been nice to have a batarang or shark repellent! And who would love some batsui hands?? Okay, I know, it's a Funko, not a Hot toys, I'll calm down.
Fun Factor: 1/5. As mentioned, you can't really do much with this other than a running pose or a standing pose without some stand assistance!
Verdict: 13/25 Okay. I do like having an Adam West representative Batman, but it is ultimately limited as an action figure you can pose and have fun with.
Quick! To the Batmobile! |
His head has kind of an amazing range of motion. |
BOF! |
Nice detail symbol on the belt! |
His only accessory, but kinda neat! |
"Robin, I think we're being watched!" |
Noice! I love the 1966 Batman show. It was one of my gateway drugs into the world of superheroes and though B:TAS would be my personal "definitive" take on Batman, the campy zaniness of Adam West and his cohorts will always hold a place in my bat-heart. I've been tempted to seek out some of these but I worry that it would open the floodgates and become "gotta catch 'em all" but this looks like a decent if very basic figure.
