The way Sasuke is written in Shippudden leaves a lot to be desired. I understood his character a lot more in Part 1. He wants vengeance on his brother, he's an emo kid who doesn't want anyone to truly understand him or be his friend. I get it! Despite that, Naruto perseveres in trying to make him part of the ninja family that Naruto has built up over the series.
This figure is once again very well executed. The sculpt and engineering are great, allowing a wide range of flexibility. The accessories are almost everything you would want from his combat in Part 1minus his transformation into Curse Marks 1 and 2. To get that done though it feels like you'd need a fully different sculpt for the wing hands, and a distinct head and face plate. Even if you wanted to execute Curse Mark 1, the arms legs and face would also need a switch. This figure definitely covers his moves including and past the Chunin exams.
Sculpt & Paint: 3/3 There is not a ton of paint to do here, but the blues, the headband, and the armbands/legbands are all very clean. The face plates shine here with their details and expression. The sculpting of the wrinkles in the clothes makes it look pretty accurate and pleasing. Though he is supposed to be a couple of inches taller than Naruto, I find the figure looks just a little bit too tall, especially when compared to other characters in the line.
Articulation: 3/3 Same super articulation as Naruto. The shorts are interesting in that the part below the upper thigh is a hollow cap that slides up and down and hides another ball joint between the areas of the upper leg. Otherwise, everything has a lot of range, but take care with the ankles, the ball joints are short and tend to pop off often if you need to be more gentle with them.
Accessories: 1/1 Four extra face plates, 5 pairs of extra hands, a kunai, demon wind shuriken, chidori effect and a fireball with it's own stand! Pretty solid and all well-painted. I'd love for the fireball to be a bit bigger but there's only so much you can fit into that package while also considering the price.
Fun Factor: 2/3 Because he's not my favourite Naruto character, as much as I enjoy the figure, I probably won't take him out to play around as much as the others in this line. He does have good balance, but the ankle thing can come off a bit too often.
Verdict: 9/10 Worthy An awesome figure! You can't go wrong with this one if you're a Naruto fan. I would really like it if they made a kid Sakura figure for this line, but they seem to have gone fairly random once they finished the Shippudden version of Team 7. I would also love this figure dressed in black and with curse mark effects as see in his Chunin exam version OR alternatively a full curse mark 3 version of kid Sasuke. Or Both. And kid Sakura. Just give me everything!
Back view. The red portion of the Uchiha symbol seems like it's sculpted and then inserted instead of being just simply painted. Interesting choice. |
The accessory spread is pretty great here. |
Box art. Always nice and the pictures on the back help with posing ideas the company specifically had in mind |
Good balance, though some issues with the ankles disconnecting |
Lion's barrage! Stolen technique from Rock Lee. |
Katon! Gokakyu no Jutsu! |
Koi! |
Demon wind shuriken. It's kinda funny how cool a weapon this is but it's rarely used by Sasuke after the first arc he uses it, The Land of Waves arc. |
When you see your teacher reading smut right out in the open! |
Always fighting these two. |
Love this figure but since I got the Mainland China release (NOT A Bootleg) and not the Japan or North America release, mine has a few issues like the left arm popping off and the Chidori effect not staying on the hand properly but I still really like the figure
ReplyDeleteYeah I had some issues with the Chidori being a bit loose. Sometimes I just give in and stick a bit of sticky tack on it to keep it in place while it's in the current pose I like. I'm pleasantly surprised it does tend to be a decent fit in other figures who need a chidori (like Kakashi)
