S.H. Figuarts Kakashi Hatake - Naruto Shippuden

Kakashi is definitely one of my top 5 favourite Naruto characters. He's cool, extremely knowledgable, calm to the point of seeming catatonic, and has some interesting parts to his backstory. Add to that that he became Hokage, the leader of the Hidden Leaf Ninja village for a period of time. He's capable of taking down nearly any character in the Naruto universe with the exception of Moon people and Tailed beasts, though I reckon at the height of his power he could give them a pretty good run for their money solo. Here I though the previous SH Figuarts Kakashi was super well done, this one is better in most every way!

He's got superior articulation and range as well as some more interesting face swaps. I have one minor issue with the articulation and one major one with the accessories. I love that they extended the shoulder pads out and gave you more posing options here.

Sculpt/Paint 3/3: Really good job here. The paint is a lot darker in tone than the previous SHF release but the proportions are far better. His shoulder pads and neck guard or more prominent as they are in the show. His arms  and legs are a bit bulkier and more striking. His dark blue paint has more shine to it than others in the line, but that's alright. His skin tones have that same semi-translucent quality of others in the line. Not sure if the material was chosen there to facilitate easier molding and/or painting but there it is.

Articulation: 2.5/3 I don't think I usually give half points but this will be an exception to the rule. The double-jointed neck has great range. The elbows and knees have probably the best type of joint it could have for double-jointed movement. The wrists are good, with larger ball joints to allow better movement. The hips are great in terms of motion, and the ankle areas take the cake. First of all, the top of the food has a ball joint which is unheard of. The ankle itself has crazy good motion and the shin even swivels. It also has that standard toe hinge which works out well. I'm not crazy about two things though: The butterfly joint does almost nothing to help him cross over the chest, and the waist twist is sculpted to have very limited range. For a figure more expensive than Naruto or Sakura, it has the same number of joints (more actually) but less range. Weird!

Accessories: 0.5/1 This is difficult because he comes with A LOT. For his slanted headband head, he has three faceplates (neutral, happy, shocked) and for his SECOND pulled-up headband head, he has three as well (Sharingan, Mangekyo Sharingan and both eyes open). He comes with a ton of hands for punching, holding his book, thousand years of pain and readying his lightning raikiri. He also has his Icha Icha book. BUT HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY EFFECTS. Every other character in the line so far has an energy effect. Kakashi even has hands that look like he's about to start the effect, but no effect. That is weird! They could have just as easily given him the same Lightning as Sasuke. For the expense it seems really odd they didn't give him one. It is also essential part of his attack. The fact the last release had it (though it looked odd) and he doesn't is bizarre here. I will also add here unlike every other figure we have for the older line, there are no kunai here or hands to hold ones. Strange considering how often they use the weapons in the show.

Fun Factor: 3/3 He is a crap ton of fun to pose. The options here are endless and I could take different pictures and set ups for days here. He's got great balance and posing, and despite a few things lacking he's an awesome top-of-the-line figure here.

Verdict: 9/10 Worthy. He's more expensive than the others with a couple of minor things out of line, but overall a really really good figure. If you are a Naruto fan wondering if you should buy another Kakashi, the answer is yes. This one is superior to all other Kakashi figures I've seen on the market in nearly every way, even the very rare 2003 one I own.

Good details on the back. Really nice
proportioning on this Kakashi

Classic blase look!

The accessories. Very cool but zero weapons or energy pieces!
What in the heeeell

"Calm down guys, I was just visiting
my dead buddy's grave!"

"What?!"

"I SWEAR it's not softcore porn reading!"

Really good balance and splits here

Classic out of the ground
punch to the face

Luckily Sasuke's lightning effect
works well here

A comparison of the first SH Figuarts, the new one for this review,
and the 2003 Bandai version. This newest one wins
hands down in every category except accessories.

KANCHO!!!

Kind of a gross japanese prank!
