NECA TMNT Shredder - 1990 Film

In Japan, Oroku Saki was a fierce rival of Hamato Yoshi, competing in just about everything including the love for Tang-Shen. Tang-Shen managed to convince Yoshi to escape to America with her. Seeking revenge for losing to Yoshi again, he follows them to New York and murders Tang Shen in cold blood. He kills Yoshi when he returns home, but his rat manages to attack and leave him scarred before escaping.

Oroku later adorns himself in bladed metal armour and takes over the Foot clan, a gang of thieves and societal rejects that work together to build Shredder's criminal organization. In the movie the clan is mostly seen shoplifting and doing petty crime so...that's interesting! Not what you'd think a ruthless gang trained in martial arts weaponry would be doing. Eventually, April O'Neil starts discovering evidence of the gang, and only with the intervention of the turtles is the assassination attempt quashed.

Out of the NECA TMNT I own, this is actually my favourite. Yes, you heard me right, the angry one-dimensional villain figure is my favourite. First of all HIS CAPE. Wow....just so shiny and metallic with a lot of good bendy wire. Secondly, his clothing is also sparkly. Third, all the blades are just perfect. There's a lot more that's great about this figure but easily a favourite of mine.

Sculpt/Paint: 3/3 Spot on, deadly accurate. I love how they also made his cloak and face mask removable. The paint is top-notch. It just feels like you are holding the real thing honestly.

Articulation: 3/3 (30+ points): Like the turtles, he's loaded with articulation! Feet and hands are swivel pegs, ab is a bit disappointingly limited but alright as they did hide it well with the cloth belt and rubbery crotch. The head and neck each have their own joint which while limited by the helmet and cloak offer some decent range. The hips and shoulders have two axes of motion but the shining star of the articulation here are the knees and shoulders. They are double jointed and the mid-connector piece also swivels to allow a really good range for stances and closing in the arms towards the body. Nice!

Accessories: 1/1 Like the turtles I give this a full point, but I didn't actually get most of the pieces. He is supposed to have a knife and sheath, four more hands (with blades and without) and his sharp staff spear, which I've had the WHOLE TIME and mistakenly thought the seller and meant it for Donatello's replacement staff. Oh boy. So he has one thing apparently and Donatello has nothing! If it counts, he also has the removable mask and cape (the best part of the figure IMO).

Fun Factor: 3/3 He is amazing to pose and play with, and I attribute at least 50% of that to his glittery shiny cape that comes with the bendy wire. WOW. So cool!

Verdict: 10/10 Amazing. Very few figures get this score, but this is a top 10 figure for me. It's really cool even if you're not a big fan of the TMNT live-action movies. At this time I'm sure everyone is going for the Super Shredder that was released by NECA but for that classic paired-down look, this is a favourite of mine.

That shine though!

He's like, the peacock of my action figures

They did a super good job of the unmasked face
though I'll admit I don't recall how close this is to the
actors look in the films.

Oroku vs. Splinter!

Uncloaked he's a bit naked looking but
still pretty imposing with all the spikey bits!

Next to my 2012 TMNT Customized shredder

Apparently, Donatello got his weapon somehow so
we'll go with that!

It's kinda crazy how easily he defeats them without
any weapons with serious reach.
