DC Icons - Mister Miracle

First created by Jack Kirby in the 1970s, Mister Miracle is an escape artist by the name of Thaddeus Brown who actually trains Bruce Wayne in the same skill. Upon being killed by Darkseid's earthly Intergang force, Scott Free (ha...ha!) takes up the mantle and Thaddeus' old costume.

That said, Mister Miracle's typical incarnation is that of the son of the ruler of New Genesis. He is exchanged as a child with Darkseid's second-born, Orion, in order to force a peace treaty between Apokolips and New Genesis. In this case, he is a fully-realized New God individual with immortality, super-strength, reflexes, speed, and all that. He also has the power to use energy to generate Aero discs to fly with and is a genius-level inventor. He later becomes free (eh, eh?) of Darkseid's oppressive regime and joins the Justice League International. In all incarnations, he is also husband to one of Darkseid's former warriors, Big Barda, who also joints the League at times.

This figure is part of the very first wave of DC Icons that included Batman (previously reviewed here), Green Arrow, and Deadman. The figure looks great, despite being the lesser-known name of the wave. He's got great shiny metallic paint, some neat accessories, and good poseabilitiy (minus some of the neck and diaphragm features, but that has been true for the entire line till the end). I also like how his cape is very soft and isn't so heavy that it hinders posing.

Sculpt/Paint: 4/5 The sculpt here is pretty standard to the Icons line. I actually like the proportions and musculature, though there are some things that are odd-looking, namely when the arms are extended the gap in the double-jointed elbows is pretty strange! The sculpt of the cape is also a bit odd since it gets super slim on the back and flares out in strange volumes to the side. The paint is pretty great though. Very shiny reds and greens with gold accents are top-notch.

Articulation: 4/5 (27 points): I love the way the knees, elbows and wrists move in Icons. The head is severely limited in that it can only swivel around. The diaphragm can't even swivel well because it was poorly implemented! The forward waist swivel isn't bad, but not a ton of range. The hips have no thigh swivel action but still, give good splits and range. The ankles are forward-facing pins with swivels and do their job well enough.

Accessories: 4/5 He comes with most of what I think a Mr. Miracle needs: open and closed fist hands. I like how the open hands are styled. He looks like he could be using power or doing a telepathy move! Two Aero discs are included for him to fly on. They even have rollers! He also comes with a small cube that I think accesses the Mother box he created? Or it is his Mother box? Not 100% sure!

Fun Factor: 4/5 He looks pretty great on a shelf! So shiny and metallic. He balances super well in poses despite the strange-looking cape (which is a very flexible material).

Verdict: 16/20 Great He is a really cool figure on his own and a nice addition to my Icons collection. It also helped that he was pretty cheap! about 15 CAD on Amazon. Definitely recommend if you're a completionist or enjoy some more outlandish characters in the DC Universe.

Nice paint!

Odd cape choice

Accessories: I like 'em! It's funny that they put
mini rollers on each Aero disc
Behold! The tiny Mother box!

Ready to fire some energy beams!
Super splits

I like all the aerial poses you
can get with him.
