S.H. Figuarts - Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi Sensei. The copy cat ninja. Hero of the Sharingan and Sixth Hokage of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. He is the ultimate cool-headed teacher and team leader to a young Naruto Uzumaki and Team 7 before the time skip. He has a bit of a tragic past with his father having committed suicide, and both his teammates dying (at separate times) as a young Jonin (senior level ninja). As a side note, in the Ninja village system in the show, the rank of shinobi goes as follows:

Academy student (ninja-in-training)
Genin (Low ranking ninja, qualify for D level missions under a supervising ninja)
Chunin (Mid-ranking ninja, can guide genin and take on C or B level missions)
Jonin (High-level ninja, can lead a team, take on A and S rank missions)
Special Jonin (High-level ninja that Jonin-like specialty in a single field. ex: Info extraction)
Kage (an Exceptionally powerful ninja who is a leader of a given Ninja village)
There are other classes and specialty of Ninja, but in terms of official ranks, those are it. A side note to this side note is that Naruto and Sasuke, the most powerful Ninja in the show, were Genin rank for most of it due to circumstances not permitting testing. OK, back to the main post!

From a vicious attack and the death of his Uchiha clan friend, he obtained one of his Sharingan (copy wheel) eyes, from which he copies others' jutsu and even develops some of his own along the way.
Since it is technically always "on" he covers it on one side with his headband. His unique jutsu focus mostly on mirroring his opponents jutsu, using his eye to teleport matter, summon tracker hounds and the use of the raikiri (lightning blade) to finish a battle. He is a fairly laid back, apathetic teacher, as evidenced by his half-closed eyes, but can be serious and take charge when the situation calls for it.

The details on this figure are fantastic. They've sculpted excellent details on his arm patch, face and Jonin vest pouches. Even the zipper is well done! The sculpt is pretty accurate to the anime with the exception that his hair is just slightly too up-spiked. The paint is well and cleanly applied, though like most S.H. Figuarts...where's the shading?? The articulation is pretty darn good with notably well-done butterfly joints, double peg ball/hinge ankles and very strangely engineered, but fairly effective thigh joints. The accessories are pretty good too with a wide variety of extra hands, faces, two kunai and his Icha Icha book. However, his lightning effect Raikiri looks a lot more like...a lightning Rasengan! I think I foresee buying the Tamashii Nations blue thunder effects for him to compliment this...

Sculpt/Paint:4/5 Great He's got all the major paint and sculpt details covered. The toes are a bit messy, but everything is clean and well executed. The sculpt for the thighs looks...odd...some people might say diaper-ish but I'm going to pretend I don't see that cause he's a great figure! Also,
no 😎ing..you get the picture.

Articulation: 5/5 (34 PoA) Big points here for the ball rocker ankles. It's so much easier to balance! The rest of the joints are pretty good, and I really like they included the upper arm swivel cut. It just makes things a tad easier when posing arms closed in. The slight limits in the range are the ab crunches due to the jacket sculpt. The strangely engineered hips allow a lot better crouching but limit the splits ability. Everything else is great!

Price/Availability: 3/5 Okay. He's available close to his original price on Amazon, not available at BBTS and I see a LOT of knockoffs from China on eBay, so beware the hell out of that. I don't see him being very available in too many stores as he is a very popular figure for fans of the show.

Accessories: 5/5 Nearly all!  Given that half his face is covered, they did well to include three face plates (one with the eye covered, one with both uncovered, one with only the Sharingan eye open for attack), 12 hands, two kunai knives and the Icha Icha book he is always reading in the show. The only thing they could have really done here otherwise given when the figure was made is a better Raikiri effect (perhaps more like Sasuke's) and maybe a tiny Pakun tracker hound figure (even a static, non-poseable one would be cool).

Fun factor: 5/5 Awesome figure. I have great memories of watching Kakashi and his storylines (especially the Kakashi Gaiden episodes). He is a top 5 character for me, and this figure definitely mirrors that sentiment. I've done lots of pictures with this figure even before this blog so I will undoubtedly continue.

Verdict: 22/25 Great! This is a great figure if you're a fan of the Naruto line though honestly, he's pretty neat even if you just like cool import action figures. Really good character and figure design on this one. Pick it up if you have the budget!

Since I keep the boxes, they get a pic!

Two kunai, two weapon hands, two jutsu hands, two open
hands, two book-reading hands, book, bandana lift hand,
Raikiri hand + effect and two extra pieces showing off his
Sharingan! Nice spread.

"I'm Hatake Kakashi. Things I like and things I hate?
I don't feel like telling you that. My dreams for the future?
 Never really thought about that.
As for my hobbies... I have lots of hobbies.

He's gotta read that next page
of his Icha Icha novel!

....even during training!

But it's not like he can't take on Naruto

...he did teach him a lot. For instance, a deadly jutsu....

THOUSAND YEARS OF PAIN!!!

Classic pose!

Everyone knows dual wielders are cool

Not a super high side kick due to the engineering

But pretty high front kicking!

Taking out the secret weapon

Sharingan!

There's the Raikiri (with no effects)

Now with added on painted effects!

It's a lot like dancing!

Seriously though, this isn't supposed to
look like an orb. I'd rather they have made more
little lightning effects like the Blue Thunder
Tamashii nations accessories (Sold separately)

All in!

Which Chakra effect did it best? Raikiri, Chidori or Rasengan?

Team 7!

No we just need for them to make Sakura for a complete team!
Sai and Yamato would also be welcome!

  1. Go ninja, go ninja, go! He's definitely got enough pouches and pockets to be from comics in the 90's.
