DC Icons - Robin (Super Sons pack)

Damian Wayne is the 13 year old progeny of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul. Raised by his mother and his grandfather, Ra's Al Ghul, he is dropped at Batman's door. He starts out very self-important, lacking in empathy and an extremely deadly fighter.

Even though he can act like a real dick (pun intended), I have a soft-spot for Damian. He's got a very distinct personality, and he experiences real character growth in the comics. He also is pretty good at kicking butt and executing a very independent version of Robin.

Like the Superboy, I really like this figure for his articulation, sculpt, likeness and great accessories. I also can't stress enough that it is great to get a child superhero in proper child's proportions. The DC Classics and Universe versions are fine, but are basically adults and do not represent Damian well.
His staff is a little plain, his diaphragm joint is a bit useless (like Superboy's), but he's an all around great figure.

Sculpt&Paint: 4/5 Great.  His sculpt is really good, and there are fewer blemishes and issues than the Superboy in terms of paint application. Cons? I'm not as fond of how side-swept they made the hair sculpt and of course there's no shading. One thing they did miss is that the lower border of his tunic is supposed to be painted yellow against the red, but it is not here.

Articulation: 4/5 Great. (27 points). Like Superboy, he sports a pretty good range of motion and awesome articulation. His sculpt limits his movement in several areas though. The lower tunic part limits the splits range of his legs, the cape overhangs the shoulders, so limits how high he can raise his arms. The hood also somewhat limits his head moving backwards, but I don't find many DC figures with good head range of motion. His diapragm joint definitely allows better swivel range than Superboy's though.

Price/Availability: 4/5 Good. Same as Superboy, as they were in the 2 pack (see previous review).

Accessories: 4/5 Good. He comes with FIVE pairs of hands...whoa...two batarang loaded hands, two fist, two relaxed open, two staff holding, two karate chop hands. He comes with his staff, which is just a solid, non-textured piece (not particularly interesting, but ok). I would've traded an extra head/expression and/or an alternate cape that was either hood up or flying back so you could pose his arms better.

Fun Factor: 5/5 Excellent. Damian has easily made my top 5 figures. He balances well, and has an awesome look. He's a great representation, and I've been waiting for a good representation of Damian for a while! Any Batman fan would do well to get this figure, even if (like me) you don't have as much interest in the Superboy figure.

Verdict: 21/25 Great. This is a great figure. Highly recommend!

Pretty good sculpt. I like how they did the mask
with the whites bordered by black

Accessories: Pretty good, despite the plain staff. Love the
batarang hands.

He can kick better than that, but it is damn hard to
pose given how the tunic restricts his legs.
May need some slight customization.

Batman vs. Robin (animated film) saw these two spar. It was a
fun action sequence to watch.

Ultimately Damian won.

Surprise attack!

  1. Cool looking figure. Even though Tim Drake is probably my favourite Robin I must admit that Damien has the best Robin costume of the 21st century so far. I'm kind of confused by his lower torso and the way it's cut above his belt on either side. Maybe it makes more sense in person but it looks weird to me.

    1. That's funny, I didn't think about how it cut into the sculpt/paint work before, but now I can't unsee it! It's the joint for his forward ab hinge. It does look odd though.
