McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Riddler - Arkham City

I previously reviewed a version of this Riddler by DC Collectibles here. He's the smarmy C-grade villain here with an overblown sense of superiority and intellect. He supplies all the very simple riddles and traps for Batman to waltz through, frustrating him to no end. I love how somehow he must have millions of dollars to make these elaborate traps just to secure a hostage or two, or hide a trophy in odd places. With all that money you'd think he'd be wealthy enough to create Arkham City itself!

This figure is a superior sculpt to the DC Collectibles version. Those pants aren't as weird, the face is less crazy sideways with the mouth, and the proportions are better. The paint is definitely worse though, and it has the McFarlane points that not everyone loves (flat knees/elbows, lack of paint on details, awkward ratchets and the diaper rubber crotch).

Sculpt/Paint: 2/3 Really nice sculpt here. The face looks good, and as a bonus, you can lower or raise the tinted glasses slightly. They're actually opaque but I can see how it would be difficult to do this with such a tiny piece of plastic. Question marks are all over the suit, the back of the gloves and the tie pin. The crotch with the buttons shows up glaringly here and wrecks a bit of the smooth suit look even while standing neutrally. The buttons and smaller question marks aren't painted, same with the hat band and laces. I do appreciate the brighter green tone despite the grimness that Arkham games try to go for.

Articulation: 3/3 (30 +) All the joints work well here. They've got the typical stuff, lack of mobility in the upper diaphragm, ugly knees and elbows but very functional in every other way. I do appreciate being able to put him in some nice holier-than-thou poses.

Accessories: 0.5/1 Riddler has his classic cane, but it's black instead of green. Strange. He has the stand and card but -1/2 a point for a missed opportunity here of not including a Riddler trophy. Why! It's even on his card picture!

Fun Factor: 2/3 is Definitely more fun to pose than the DC Collectibles! I will probably replace the cane and keep this one for the main display for sure!

Verdict: 7.5/10 Limited If they had done a better job of painting and adding the trophy I'd say worthy. I'd have been more excited about it for sure. It's still a nice replacement or hold-in for a good Riddler Figure, and really you could substitute it for other comic versions potentially!

Definitely a much better smarmy expression than the previous release. I really like the
tie clip detail and the suit lines. It is really lacking in paint for the question marks and even the ribbon for the bowler hat.

Awesome back piece with the question mark

Heel click!

Nice range of motion in most limbs, one arm I'm finding is a bit limited

Tada!

It's always interesting that when comparing figures you can either have at most two of three:
Good articulation, good paint, and/or good sculpt. Old Riddled has great paint but
really weird sculpt (especially the face). Newer Riddler has great sculpt and decent articulation, but
very incomplete paintwork.
