The scale is pretty crazy. If the comic cover is to be taken at face value, the thing appears to be over 20 feet tall. He can fly with jetfire boosters and has claws to grapple criminals. I never read the retro comics released but it seems like a neat idea (though admittedly this is not even close to the first time a robot Batman has been created and used by either side of the fight in Gotham).
This figure is very limited in poseability but it is still amazing that it was made at all. I will give McFarlane one thing: They dive deeply into many of their comic-related and other media-related lines. At this point, they've surpassed the DC Classics line for both the number of figures and variants on the figure colours and sculpts. Looks-wise, it is an awesome addition to your shelf.
Sculpt & Paint: 3/3 The paint here is pretty flawless when compared to the comic book cover. They actually have missed any details here, which is a funny thing to say given how often they do this with most of their other lines and they just don't put in the full paint effort. Very nice! The sculpt is pretty dead on as well. No notes! P.S. Cloth cape?? Very nice.
Articulation: 2/3 (18 points) This is the low range of what I usually collect, but for a stiff robot created for a 1966 Batman setting, it pretty much poses how you might want it too. I do wish that the claws could open and close though!
Accessories: 1/1 He only comes with the jetfire parts that are also removable. In images, he is shown using them like a weapon/tool? I'm not sure that's their intention.
Fun Factor: 1/3 Because of the limited posing you'll probably set yours up like me: in a flight pose with jets a-blazin'. Even standing can be dicey depending due to the lack of lower limb articulation.
Verdict: 7/10 Limited This was a gift exchange wherein a friend and I each got each other a bizarre action figure, and it definitely paid off! Despite the limited range and posing, it is definitely a great look, especially if you collect other retro DC figures or really any other retro lines.
Love this helmeted look |
The filters really bring out the blue of the cape! It's not a perfect cloth cape but at least McFarlane has been trying something new |
